Elysium Events is hiring part-time, seasonal event support staff to help coordinate and implement sustainability efforts for events in the Portland Metro area. Position: Event Support Staff. This position is a non-benefit, part-time, seasonal, and temporary employment position; hours fluctuate each month through the summer and fall.
Pay: $15.00/hr
Closing: Ongoing, until filled.
Duties: Event support staff handle event waste streams and represent the face of the company. Typical duties may include directing attendees on how to properly sort their waste; changing out full bags while ensuring no contaminants in recycling and compost streams; sorting and measuring materials, including trash, recycling, compost, and donatable items. Training will be provided on site.
Position Requirements: Ideal candidates must be able to remain energetic and positive during busy events. This is a hands-on, often physical, and frequently social position. Depending on the event, individuals may be required to stand for 4+ hours at a time, carry full bags of materials, traverse uneven ground, distinguish recyclable or compostable material from landfill-bound waste, hand-sort contaminants from recycling and compost streams, and to lift up to 25 lbs. Other events have a scope of work that is less physical and allows for sitting but requires lifting and verbal communication.
Candidate must be able to handle a multitude of tasks. Though Elysium works for many fun clients, our staff remains committed and focused on the sustainability task at hand. A passion for waste reduction is a must, knowledge about the Portland recycling stream is highly desired.
Candidate must be at least 18 years of age.
Availability Requirements:
Applicant must be available for at least one of the shifts below. We will also have other opportunities throughout the summer.
Specific Roles:
Resource Recovery Station Monitors will be stationed by a four-bin system of landfill, recycling, compost and liquids to direct attendees on how to properly sort their waste.
Collectors & Sorters will assist with collecting, sorting and measuring materials, including trash, recycling, liquids, compost and donatable items (food, signs, etc.).
Event Locations: Various locations in NW and SW Portland, both accessible by public transportation.

8:45am-11:30am (Station Monitor)
9:45am-2:15pm (Collector & Sorter)
Tuesday 3/17:
8:00am-5:30pm (Station Monitor) - can be broken into separate AM/PM shifts if need be
10:30am-2:30pm (Station Monitor)
11:30am-3:30pm (Collector & Sorter)
5:30pm-10:30pm (Station Monitor)
6:30pm-11:30pm (Collector & Sorter)
Wednesday 3/18:
8:00am-5:30pm (Station Monitor) - can be broken into separate AM/PM shifts if need be
10:30am-2:30pm (Station Monitor)
11:30am-3:30pm (Collector & Sorter)
Thursday 3/19:
8:00am-5:30pm (Station Monitor) - can be broken into separate AM/PM shifts if need be
